Visionary Housing Legislation- we deserve no less
Our key objective is:
1. to have the wildly inappropriate housing legislation which was rushed into law in December 2021 repealed, so that…

2. the Government can value existing legislation and, where needed, undertake genuine, sensitive, and extended public consultation to fill any gaps.

Our group was born in the heat of opposition to the Bill in mid-November 2021, but sadly the battle was already lost. Councils were deliberately blindsided by central Government, and the public was kept in the dark by the cynical ploy of passing the legislation under urgency not only just prior to Christmas, but under cover of the Covid-19 media blitz. This perfect storm denied citizens' rights to due process and enabled one of the most pernicious and senseless pieces of legislation in recent times to be passed into law.

This legislation sacrifices the entire urban landscape of all New Zealand cities to the ideology of massive, random intensification, when in fact there is absolutely no need. More disturbingly, it has no mandate whatsoever from the people, and its intrinsic negative consequences will be dangerous and deep.
WE SAY NO. Let’s protect and improve the character and charm of our beautiful sun-filled suburbs, nationwide, which are rated some of the best in the world. Let’s stick to our existing wise, efficient, and appropriate intensification plans, which already have ample capacity over time to house our population.

Our Story
Our group formed on the Facebook platform in mid-November 2021, and our first task under huge time pressure was to put up a Parliamentary Petition in opposition to the Bill (link above), which was presented to Parliament just hours before the Bill was passed into law. This was essentially a symbolic gesture, marking the beginning of the fight against a needless and pernicious law. Note: as a result of the petition, the group was able to put a submission to the Petitions Committee (link above). Another symbolic win, but at least a chance to document our concerns and have them heard. No other organization did this. There are many other initiatives in the pipeline. Volunteer to be a part of the action.
We are new, but we are not a rabble. Many very respected members of the community have joined our ranks to help wrestle back our lovely suburbs from central government overreach. We have members from across all of New Zealand's big cities and beyond, including a range of concerned community groups.
